You Never Get the Whole Loaf: Collected Letters

By Alice L. Haber

“When you reach a certain age, you have several hours in the day to think about the past, the present, and the future,” writes octogenarian Alice L. Haber in the dedication of her volume of collected letters to the editor,” You Never Get the Whole Loaf.

She continues: “Someone very wise once told me, ‘You never get the whole loaf.’ How true! There are things that have made my life very beautiful, and some which have brought me much pain.

“But acceptance of what has happened to you in your lifetime is the first step to making peace with yourself. So, with those words in mind, I dedicate this book to all of us seniors. We tried our best, and sometimes we fell short, but we are thankful that we can look into the mirror and say: I am still around, and I will use the rest of my days to do the best that I can.”
